As I was saying...

Just when you think it can’t get any goofier, it does.

I want to know which city councilman had the RV parked on his street, causing him to come to the conclusion that this was something that need to be regulated? Really—more than two days being parked and there is a stiff fine? Is this really a problem in Victoria? I haven’t seen random RVs parked in my neighborhood, so I’m thinking this is much ado about nothing. Except I guess someone’s homeowner’s association got twisted up over Cousin Eddie and his family showing up for a visit with the family. The first reading of an ordinance will be tonight. Thomas Gwosdz, City Attorney, will do the reading as usual. Mr. Gwosdz, I have a request about your reading of things during City Council. Please slow down. What is the rush? What could you possibly be saving? Five minutes, maybe?

Anyway, apparently this is a terrible situation and must be dealt with immediately! That clock downtown is ticking, and Lord knows, who wants those RVs littering up the neighborhoods of Victoria. Gee, what if relatives showed up right before Thanksgiving and decided to stay until the first of the year? How awful would that be? What would folks think? Well, I think they will think that Victoria needs to change its new motto to “Bring your boots, but leave your RV at home!” I know that will make folks feel real welcomed.

Also on the agenda tonight is looking at safety measures for the Hike and Bike Trail. Recently a young woman was sexually assaulted on the trail, and now the local chapter of the NRA and the wannabes are ready to step up and shoot any suspicious looking folks on the trail. Never mind that a lot of the trail borders neighborhoods and folks’ backyard back up to it. No, these upstanding citizens all believe their concealed handgun permits will magically ensure that their suspicions will always be correct, their hands always steady and their aim always true. Well, good luck there.

Last but not least, Deputy City Manager Bruce Ure suddenly resigned yesterday, citing management style differences. I think we only have part of the story so far, but I know it could get interesting. It will also be interesting to see if this is addressed in any way at the City Council meeting this afternoon since this resignation seems to have come as a surprise to the Mayor and at least one City Councilman.

Well, there you have it—Victoria at its finest!

Do you agree yet that it time to see some new folks in those chairs up on the dais?

So, until next time,
Edith Ann

The city government in Victoria has to be the most passive-aggressive collection of nitwits I have ever had the displeasure of observing!

They are all about a few bright ideas someone has, and they ignore the reality of what goes on in this town. We have unsavory business in Victoria. We have those who are up to no good. I sure wonder why the city thinnks they can continue to promote tourism and all things good when we don't have the riff-raff things under control.

They are really annoying. They only care about themselves. They only seem to want good for a few.

What is the definition of a "few".

Maybe this could be the definition:

few (fu)personal pronoun: 1) any number of persons who stand to make an incredible profit upon the backs of their neighbors. 2) sounds like, smells like - (D&L)Patillo, Day, Thomas, New, Fowler, not forgetting Krueger and wannabees Armstrong, Pozzi, Polasek, Rangel, Halapaska and Mr Moo-Moo.

Is anyone being left out? Please feel free to add your name if you were wrongfully omitted.

Thanks

Oh, if you are an out-of-town RV owner, welcome to Victoria. Do not forget we told you so.

Let me update you on the CC meeting this evening--

First, they will be looking into safety issues on the hike and bike trail. That will be a good thing.

Next, on the RV issue--one citizen spoke to the CC and expressed his opinion about the city being able to remove someone's property (the RV). Lots of discussion took palce, the citizen making lots of good points. Back and forth on what was needing to be done. Since this was the first reading, the vote on it really doesn't count EXCEPT PAUL POLASEK VOTED THIS DOWN WITH DAVID HAGAN AND GABRIEL SOLIZ!!! Can you believe it? I know----A M A Z I N G ! Paul appeared to be in a bit of a better mood. And Thomas Gwosdz slowed down a bit while reading his stuff. Perhaps he saw the hint here? Who knows?

#1 Anon--I have to agree with the
passive-aggressive attitude of the council. But this evening they were talking about marketing Victoria to the locals. How novel! However, I simply do not believe that a local who said she's lived here for 25 years and had never been down town. That is really far-fetched.

#2 Anon--that looks like a definition of few to me. At least locally. The citizen that spoke to the council made a lot of good points about the RVers who come through.

I thought it was a pretty good meeting.

If you want to watch, go here: http://www.vtv15.org/council.php

The November 15 meeting is not up yet, but should be mid-morning tomorrow.
Bruce Ure was not present and as far as I could tell, not a mention was made of his exit.

You all need to attend the meetings. New cushy seats, it's nice.

Given that Ure has in the past #1. been fired for moonlighting #2. filed suit against former employer for wrongful termination, and #3 been indicted for sticking his nose in a DPS Investigation and lying about it, I glad to see his tail lights. Now just how in the hell he got hired, then promoted is a question I'd REALLY like answered.

Bet he never gets that taste out of his mouth.....

Oh! Did I mention how as Police Chief, his department ignored the obvious short comings of the Hike and Bike Trail by first ignoring the lack of crossings and markings, and then not providing any level of security at such an obvious potential problem area?

Lord, how I absolutely detest bureaucrats!

Looks to me Paul is morphing back into his "fiscal conservative"/"libertarian" old self. And yes, I agree Paul improved on his Will Armstrong prune imitation.

Edith Ann don't buy the red headed politician's vote. It is a strategic vote he will point to while up for reelection. Once he has secured his position he will flip flop back. When it comes down to spending our money his conservative values will fly out the window along with our tax dollars.

Bighorn, hello!

Refresh my memory--what is the deal with Ure being fired? I remember point #2, and on point #3, all those charges were dropped for lack of merit by an independent prosecutor.

As to the safety of the hike and bike trail, would you have any change in your opinion of the VPD's responsibility if you knew that some safety features were eliminated from the original plans? I seem to recall that being the case. I'll see if I can get better info on that.

But as always, you raise some good points.

I don't believe Polasek is morphing into anything. He is what he is, but I do think he seemed to be in a bit of a better mood Tuesday night. Perhaps that was just because he was glad to see me!

Ben Workman--Welcome to EA, I don't believe I have seen you around here before.

Yes, I do believe Polasek realizes that he will have to come across as very different from the mayor if he want to compete with the mayor in '13. And yeah, perhaps that vote was just for show, but his voting history is readily available, as will be the opportunities for him to defend it.

Am I wrong, or did you post about the CAT job situation? Wanna talk about that?

You just gotta love Victoria's GOB system and "unofficial" price fixing. Greedy Stop unleaded in Rockport on 11/16/11....$3.08. Greedy Stop unleaded in Victoria $3.22.

And these fellows have the nerve to think they should haul off grannies' RV as she sits it in the kids driveway? SHAME-SHAME-SHAME on the Victoria City Council and their VEDC Handlers.

And the recent news from the Cat Litterbox. Expect $9.50 jobs. Wow. That is a tad beneath the $50,000 promise by Dale Fowler and his VEDC liars. It is all about whose pocket is getting lined. I am glad Patillo's "Dinner with the Dogs" was a success. Will they throw their scraps out the back door for the rest of Victoria's citizens when their officially open for business?

If I recall correctly, Ure was disimissed from the City of Webster for moonlighting as a peace officer, while serving as a Fire Marshall. He then filed wrongful termination suit against them under some circumstance that only a shithouse lawyer would concieve.

As for point #3, I stated he was indicted, not tried or convicted.

I don't know Bruce Ure or the city manager or anyone close to the situation, so all I've got is a smell test.

Ure served as a fire chief AND police chief. Then he accepted a job as an ASSISTANT . . . whatever. Is it just me, or does this smell funny to anyone else?

Edith Ann said...

Yeah, I want to talk about the CAT stuff. Maybe we can do that this weekend.

Gas in Victoria (HEB) was 3.21. Gas in Houston (HEB) was 3.07. Same day, Tuesday. I have yet to hear an explanation that is satisfactory as to why there is a difference IF AS THE FOLKS LOVE TO SAY--it all comes from the same place, no matter the brand.

Bighorn, I thought that Webstarer might have been what you were referring to, I am just fuzzy on the details.

As for the indictment--I posed my question because he was not alone in that matter. All of the folks indicted had their charges dropped as we know.

Riverboat, I personally think...well you all know what I think about City Hall.

I think the list of things that don't pass the sniff test is long and varied! I am really hoping to begin to see some change on the Council--we need to break up the GOBs.

Bighorn, since you are ignorant of the whole story of the lies that resulted in the indictments of the officials, and since you don't begin to know how much damage the current DA did to the officials and their families, the City of Victoria and the injured parties, I suggest you temper your comments.

Looks like Bighorn pissed off the Mayor or Bruce!

Don't know who is the guiltier Charmelle or Bruce. But, second hand information from city employees, non-city law enforcement and discussion on the street point to Charmelle. As the personnel manager she was no good. As an assistant she was a lap dog. And if her denial of the Bruce event suggest, she has continued her ways as City Manager. The paper has used the "micro-manager" wording, let us say "it takes one to know one". The paper stated he was not keeping her totally informed. He was not good in the political process. I will sum up my thoughts, Lap Dog or Lap Dance or another Good Old Girl. We need none of the above.

Edith Ann said...

I have been discussing with a friend this whole city thing.

On the one hand, I think it is very unfortunate that we were all privy to the details. Sometimes I think we get way too much information. I am really not sure we need all the details, all the time. (Yes, I really mean that!)

But, on the other hand, sometimes the catalyst of change comes from the details. It's a dilemma.

Legion said...

We might not ever know what was what with Ure resigning.

If Charmelle Garrett learned her city management skills from the Lee, Arnold school, enough said.

Mr. or Ms. Anyymouse #1....why don't you enlighten all of us as to your insight into the subject of Ure, Tyler, Armstrong, and all other matter of your great knowledge?

We of the ignorant uneducated masses only have our ability to read, gather information, reason, and form opinions based on information. Please share with us and perhaps you can sway our opinions in a different direction.

Or you could drop your veiled threats. I doubt they will be effective with this crowd.

It must be election time, I received in the mail box "Official Business, State of Texas" news from OUR, MY very own Geanie W. Morrison. Well, boys and girls what did Geanie do worthy of the spending of taxpayer postage? Well Geanie and Senator Glenn Hagar authored (on the consent agenda) The Port of Victoria overweight load law. And what else did Geanie pass? Well she embarassed Victoria with her TAMU-V transfer law. She did "pass" a new pre-paid tuition plan. (But it is to HER credit that our students must go in hock to the tune of thousands of dollars in student loans.) Too bad Geanie couldn't announce her retirement in her taxpayer paid recap of another legislative session wasted. Mayor Will, did you get everything you wanted from Rep Geanie?

Anonymous said...

THE VICAD REPORTS: "Geanie Morrison's toughest challenge in getting re-elected to an eighth term in the Texas Legislature could come from a fellow incumbent Republican after a federal judicial panel's proposed redistricting map placed them both in the same district."

Geanie and Rep. Todd Hunter, Corpus Christi, would both be in District 32 that would include Nueces,Victoria, Calhoun and Aransas counties.

"I'm disappointed that the court disregarded the will of the Legislature, especially as it pertains to our area," Morrison said Monday.

Poor Geanie. The Will of the Legislature!!!!! POOR GEANIE. Perhaps we will learn how she will give away her $150,000 campaign contribution account. Let me be the first to say... Good Riddance. What do you say Writein?

Edith Ann said...

This is good news all around. She was a little too confortable in herr cushy spot. It is time for her to retire.

Now, since the folks in this district can't seem to do it, let's see the Corpus folks step up with a solid candidate to challenge Hunter. Morrison will not even count then.

Next stop for the erstwhile Legislator, Ms. Morrison, is to capture a very lucrative niche in lobbying.

Why does the Advocate keep featuring one blog after another from an author afflicted with being the first (and principly only) poster of the very same blog? All I see is him repeatedly blogging and being highlighted and featured, but no or little participation from others?

Apparently I'm not the only one disinterested in the ramblings of this self-proclaimed Rhodes Scholar and good-lookin' devil.

Please push these blogs to the background, VicAd. Featuring such only renders your website wasteful.
